In this month’s blog, we’re highlighting two things in particular; CPT and Medical Schools who accept international applicants
Summer CPT: Applying
As we near the end of the semester, summer internships draw closer to their start dates. And with this comes the process of applying to curricular practical training (also known as CPT). If you have an internship (paid or unpaid) experience lined up for this summer and you have not applied for CPT yet, you should ASAP. As a reminder, you cannot begin working without getting your CPT confirmed and authorized. If you have any questions and want to get started on this process, please reach out to Kellie Hernandez and/or visit this page (https://careereducation.rochester.edu/classes/casc-394i/) to get started. This page details the steps, but it will mainly consist of confirming you have an offer letter for your internship, filling out a pre-registration form, having a meeting with Kellie, and registering for CASC 394i + completing any other necessary paperwork for final submission.
Medical School Applications
This is more specific to our healthcare students but we will include some general information about graduate school as well. For those applying to medical school, applications for this cycle will open on or around June 1st, 2025. When choosing a medical school to apply to, it’s important to consider the type of program you want to apply to (MD vs DO, MD/PHD, etc) and what programs are looking for. In this list provided by the AAMC website (https://students-residents.aamc.org/media/6996/download?attachment), applicants are able to understand which schools and programs accept what type of applicants (such as Out-of-State, Canadian, International, and DACA applicants). Similarly, if you are considering graduate school of any kind (MBA, PHD, MS, and more) in the future or even for this coming summer or fall, applicants can look up various programs to see what resources and support these schools provide international students with. Most schools should have a page that details this information, and if not clearly listed, it’s always a great question to ask an admissions representative or program coordinator.
We’d also recommend attending the upcoming “Is a UR Master’s Program Right for You?” session which you can find on Handshake here (https://rochester.joinhandshake.com/events/1736022/share_preview). Representatives from the Office of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs, Warner School of Education, School of Medicine and Dentistry, and the Greene Center will be there to help you learn more about the vast graduate programs offered at the University of Rochester, how a master’s program can support your career journey, and the tuition discounts exclusive to undergraduate students.
Have a nice day and if you ever have any questions, stop by the Greene Center or schedule an appointment with an advisor!
