Position Title: Interim Chief Academic Officer
Salary Range: Assistant Superintendent Salary Schedule
Contract Length: July 1-June 30
Immediate Supervisor: Superintendent
Basic Function:
The Chief Academic Officer serves as overseer of the curriculum, acts as an instructional leader of the district, and is the primary evaluator of curricular administrators. (S)he ensures the district’s educational objectives are aligned with state frameworks and instructional practices that yield the highest standards of instructional excellence, student achievement, and community support in all subject areas. (S)he will be embedded with the District’s transformation effort. The Chief Academic Officer assists the Superintendent in all matters as defined by the Superintendent.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the identification, development, implementation, evaluation, review, and revision of all instructional programs in all schools, K-12.
- Coordinate with the CTO the effective use of technology, as an instructional tool in district schools and classrooms.
- Supervise the identification, selection, and use of textbooks, digital learning resources, and other instructional materials to support the instructional programs.
- Assist the superintendent in interpreting district programs and strategic initiatives for staff, students, and the community.
- Manage student enrollment and transfers
- Supervise the district’s summer school program and remediation programs.
- Supervise the district’s professional development and other staff training activities.
- Assist the superintendent with school improvement.
- Coordinate with the Directors of Special Education, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, ENL, High Ability, and Title programs to provide services with the curriculum.
- Participate in “Monthly Maintenance” with the teacher’s association. Collaborate with the association and nurture an ongoing positive relationship with it.
- Communicate to the superintendent the requirements and needs of the district as perceived by staff members.
- Supervise such personnel as the superintendent may assign to his/her supervision either temporarily or regularly.
- Attend Board meetings and prepare such reports for the Board as the superintendent may request.
- Report on the status of district programs and services at the request of the Superintendent, including state and federal reports as assigned.
- Monitor and develop a strategy to increase student certificates and associate degrees with local colleges.
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the superintendent may assign from time to time.

Education and/or Experience: Master’s degree or higher. Valid Indiana Teaching License. Valid Indiana Administrators License. Ph.D. or Ed.D preferred. Deep understanding of curricular frameworks, pedagogy, and quality classroom materials; successful experience developing and implementing curriculum for various grade levels and subjects.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors, employees, vendors, and the general public.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff. Excellence in written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to negotiate and handle pressure situations for long periods of time. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of School Trustees. Understanding of the technology and its application to the human resources function of a public school district. Experience in supervising and evaluating employees.
