General Defintion of Work
Under the supervision of the Principal, the Welding Instructor provides instruction in all aspects of welding to high school students.
Essential Functions
- Assist students in enhancing their skills in the areas necessary to seek employment in the welding/manufacturing industry
- Integrate the instruction of basic skills into the career and technical curriculum
- Prepare students for entry-level employment into the welding/manufacturing industries or for post-secondary study
- Assist students to be successful in career and technical education by monitoring their technical, basic skills, and placement records
- Train students where they can earn an industry certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Hold a valid Welding Technology license and be eligible for the National Center for Constructional Education & Research (NCCER) or the American Welding Society (AWS) certification
- Must possess knowledge in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, cutting, and blueprint symbol identification
- Must be willing to participate in continuing professional development
- Have the ability to supervise students in a welding lab and on location at internships
- Have verifiable work experience outside of education
- Have the ability to improve and enhance the program based upon the skills that welding/manufacturing industry employers are demanding
- Have the ability to develop partnerships with area employers
Qualifications
- Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with appropriate endorsement
- Must have 3-5 years of work experience in the welding industry
