GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Provides extensive expertise to teach Electrical and Plumbing courses as part of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program. Designs and implements an effective and appropriate educational and vocational training program for assigned students to prepare them for employment; works collaboratively with pupils, parents, support staff, administrators, health organizations, agencies, and community groups to enhance the training and employment opportunities for students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plans, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
- Provides learning experiences and teaches the course of study prescribed by the District and State approved curriculum.
- Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction of students in a Trades & Industrial program.
- Provides individual and group instruction to meet individual needs and motivate students.
- Implements principles, concepts, and basic career information related to blueprint reading, residential construction, maintenance, and service.
- Establishes and maintains student control standards required to participate in all activities effectively.
- Evaluates the academic and social growth of students and keep appropriate records.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Selects and requisitions instructional materials; maintains inventory records.
- Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities; supervises students in fieldwork.
- Participates in faculty and/or district committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Performs other related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of principles, concepts, and basic career information related to blueprint reading, residential construction, maintenance, and service.
- Knowledge of steps to prepare students for credentials.
- Ability to meet the needs of all learners.
- Ability to use various equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, calculators, and electrical equipment for children, etc.
- Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors.
- Ability to manage various correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using a prescribed format.
- Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking principles to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and deal with several abstract and concrete abstract variables.
- Ability to manage instructional time.
- Ability to manage student behavior.
- Ability to consult with parents, teachers, and the community to enhance students’ learning.
- Ability to monitor student performance.
- Participates in and provides business partners for the CTE Advisory Board.
- Sponsors the local chapter of their respective CTSO (Career & Technical Student Organization); Encourages and assists students in competition preparation.
- Coordinates and oversees WBL experiences
- Fosters workplace readiness skills through the strategic integration of Virginia’s 5Cs into daily lesson plans.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Virginia Collegiate Professional License with career and technical education endorsement in trade and industrial education. Must be highly competent in all areas of Electrical skills with at least two years or 4,000 clock hours of experience within the past five years. Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with an appropriate endorsement to teach elementary school. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND WORK CONTACTS
Significant standing, walking, moving, carrying, and bending. Handles trades workers’ equipment and materials. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
11 months (240 days); 8 hours per day
EVALUATION
Performance evaluation will be conducted annually by the School Principal on the effectiveness by which the employee has carried out the above responsibilities.
