Explore your interests, both inside and outside of the classroom, and be open to all the possibilities you can pursue with your degree and experiences at UR.

Develop target lists of companies and research recruiting timelines that align with your current internship goals.

Firsthand and the Research Industries Tool can help you research the job market and learn about the in-demand skills and competencies you’ll need to develop.
– Our Career Outcomes page shares what UR alumni from various majors have gone on to do. 


A great way to explore your curiosities is to try it out and see if it’s a good fit for you. This could be an independent project, campus job, internship, research opportunity, class and/or volunteering. There are so many different ways you can build a unique experience simply by trying stuff out and exploring different ideas!

– Attend Signature Events to continue building your network and gain skills needed for your job/graduate school search during your senior year. 

Apply to graduate schools, jobs and other post-graduation roles paying close attention to deadlines.
Handshake is a great resource for identifying opportunities. To super charge your job search, update your profile so that system generated recommendations align with your interests.
– Connect with faculty, Greene Center Advisor, mentors and others to review and support your graduate school applications.
Graduate school is an important next step if you are interested in deepening your knowledge and entering a career field that requires an advanced degree.


One of the best ways to learn about possibilities and what inspires you is to talk to people: other students, alumni, faculty, staff, family, employers… and just listen, ask questions, and take it in. 

Investigate professional associations and join local and state organizations.
– Meet with a Greene Center Career Advisor who can direct you to associations and organizations to join.

Revisit contacts from prior career conversations and update them on your job search.

Pursue new career conversations with alumni and employers and request referrals from faculty.
– Connect with these individuals through The Meliora Collective and LinkedIn.

Participate in the fall or spring semester’s 3-month mentoring program to learn from an alumnus in the field of work you are interested in entering.
– Sign up through The Meliora Collective Mentorship Program.


This is about sharing what inspires you, your key accomplishments and skills, and all that you are learning at UR and connecting all of this to where you want to go next. 

Polish your resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile based on your targeted career goals.
– Your resume communicates the unique skills and values that you can contribute and should be tailored to each organization.
– Your cover letter is an opportunity to demonstrate your enthusiasm, qualifications, and interest for a specific role to potential employers.

Practice your interview skills; A successful interview is highly dependent upon preparation!
