Designing Social Change: Careers that Impact Criminal Justice Reform

Thursday, February 29th, 2024, 6:00 PM- 7:00PM, Humanities Center, Conference Room D

This is an event that involves ideating and dialogue between students, as well as students and leaders. The leaders of this roundtable conversation include community leaders and alumni whose careers impact different aspects of criminal and prison justice reform, including policy, research, advocacy, education, and reentry programs. Participants include Thomas Gant (Reentry Coordinator for the Rochester Education Justice Initiative), Alisa Jiménez ’14 (Project Manager for the International Rescue Committee and formerly Center for Policing Equity), and Professor Philip V. McHarris (Department of Black Studies, University of Rochester).

The Greene Center invites you to apply for the 2024 Humanities for Life (HFL) Summer Internship Program. This elite program connects UR students to paid internship opportunities with non-profit organizations in the Rochester, NY region.

Policy Intern at Justice in Motion – APPLY BY 3/28/2024

Justice in Motion protects migrant rights by ensuring justice across borders. The Government & Policy intern will work under the supervision of the Policy Advocacy Manager on projects that will support policy advocacy to promote justice across borders, achieve greater transparency in the temporary foreign worker visa system, and create educational materials on transnational justice for a wide audience. Justice in Motion is
looking for a candidate who is seeking research and writing experience in the reform of the U.S. immigration system, including temporary foreign work visas, asylum, and family immigration/migration.

Virtual Student Federal Service Internship U.S. Department of State – APPLY BY 02/29/2024

The Virtual Student Federal Service program connects the talents of U.S. citizen college students with the needs of federal agencies. Since 2009, more than 10,000 remote interns have advanced the work of the federal government. The time commitment is about 10 hours per week during the school year. There are opportunities for all, from data visualization to political analysis. Internships are unpaid but may be eligible for course credit. Speak with a guidance counselor regarding course credit requirements.

AmeriCorps Student Success Coach – APPLY BY 3/11/2024

As a City Year AmeriCorps member, your service will focus on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle and/or high school students. You will help these students earn academic success, improve their attendance, learn social-emotional skills and develop positive behaviors at school. You will plan and monitor individual student progress and work with teachers on whole class instruction, breakout spaces and other in-class student assistance.
