Alumni Connected and Featured Opportunities

February 9th, 2024 | UR Summer Library Internship Program

The UR Libraries Summer Internship Program is an emerging initiative aimed at preparing rising sophomore and junior students (preferred but not required) at the University of Rochester for future work opportunities in their field of study. The UR Libraries are unique in that many of their departments mirror the work that students might find in their aspirational fields – data, finance, HR, IT, facilities, communications, user experience, project management, qualitative/quantitative research methods, instructional design, and so much more.

This paid internship opportunity places students in a productive, collaborative, and supportive work environment, and offers on-campus room and board for students who express a need. Students must opt out of the room and board arrangement (situated on the River Campus) with the knowledge that there is no pay differential for doing so. A designated workspace and the necessary technology/software will be provided to summer interns for the duration of the program.

As an intern within UR Libraries’ summer program (start May 28; work up to August 2; 8-10 weeks of work), students will benefit from a cohort experience, where peers reflect on and share their work but also socialize among and across fellow interns within the program and, as possible, across other summer programs. Students will benefit from mentoring via their manager, library leadership, and the Greene Career Center.

General timeline:

  • February 2024 – evaluation of applications; interviews take place
  • March 8 – Verbal offers for hire are extended
  • March 29 – Successful candidates receive written offer
  • April 2024 – intern and manager orientation
  • May 28 – Internships begin

The library is offering 10 paid summer internships.

To access them all on Handshake, use this link. The label is ‘ur libraries internship’.

Below are the individual postings:

February 25th, 2024 | Applications Due for Humanities for Life Internship Program

The 2024 Humanities for Life (HFL) Summer Internship Program, funded by a gift from Schwartz Community-Based Internships, connects students to paid internship opportunities with non-profit organizations in the Rochester area. These internships help students access traditionally unpaid opportunities that highlight the value of the humanities in the workplace while building critical skills such as Adaptability & Resiliency, Career Design & Management, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, Intercultural & Global Fluency, Leadership, Oral & Written Communication, and Teamwork.

First-year, sophomore and junior students in Arts, Sciences & Engineering at the University of Rochester are eligible to apply, including international students. International Students must apply for CPT through the Greene Center.

Program Benefits:
In addition to securing a full-time summer internship, accepted students join a community of current and past HFL interns, develop a network with all participating organizations, and participate in educational and social programming supported by the Greene Center for Career Education and Connections. In addition, selected HFL interns receive:

  • A $5,000 stipend distributed across the course of the summer months
  • Internship credit with transcript notation (CAS 394i)
