Your role

We have an exciting opening at our Roanoke branch for a Relationship Specialist III. In this role you will cultivate strong relationships with our members and community so we may improve their quality of life and financial well-being. You strive to build relationships by offering opportunities to support members needs with clear communication, responsiveness, while creating a personalized experience. You are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the teller line and supporting the member experience with opening or maintaining deposits, loans, and investment accounts as well as all forms of transactions.

To be successful in this role you will need to be energetic and personable with previous banking and leadership experience. Enjoy interacting and providing a positive experience for our members. Have strong attention to detail and highly organized. You are self-motivated, eager to learn and take on new challenges.

Your day

  • Maintains an understanding of ValleyStar’s history, mission, vision, and values.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the features and benefits of credit union products and services to confidently recommend solutions that meet the needs of our member and community.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of all retail and digital systems to better support the needs of their team to provide an exceptional experience for the members.
  • Responsible for the Teller Line and Branch Operations:
    • Ensure the team members on the teller line serves the membership by providing service and information to members and performing account transactions in a pleasant, efficient manner. Ensure teller drawer cash limits are adhered to.
    • Ensure proper management and security of cash vault. Verify currency from the Federal Reserve.
    • Load, unload and balance ATM.
    • Load and balance cash dispense machines and cash recyclers, when applicable.
    • Maximize service levels through coaching, training, and motivating the Teller team.
    • Maintain records of teller over/short to ensure balancing conditions are within guidelines.
    • Serves as a key operational resource for the branch. Implements, communicates, and manages branch-related operational policies and procedures under the direction of the Branch Manager. Responsible for the overall operations of the branch in the absence of the manager including the coordination of teller operations and desk team, assisting the manager in audits, training and coaching responsibilities.
    • Opening new and servicing existing consumer and business accounts, whether digitally or in-person.
    • Process loan applications, digitally or in-person including, but not limited to, signature loans, auto loans, day notes, and credit cards. Close and disburse loans. Refer loan protection products on all loans processed.
    • Actively refers opportunities for Home Loans and Commercial Loans to those teams.
    • Maintains account cards and files, and ensures members are provided all necessary information for membership.
    • Assists members in safe deposit box transactions and entries.
    • Processes member transactions, including but not limited to deposits, payments, withdrawals, transfers, cash advances, and inventory sales. Places proper holds when applicable.
    • Verifies transactions. Examines documents for endorsement and negotiability. Verifies identifying documents and signatures. Detects and resolves discrepancies.
    • Balances currency, coin and checks in the cash drawer daily. Researches and resolves discrepancies. Reports any discrepancies immediately to the Branch Manager/Director of Retail, as necessary.
    • Assist in the proper management and security of the cash vault, ATM, and cash dispenser.

We need

  • 3 years of banking experience that includes a strong understanding of bank operations.
  • Supervisory experience leading and coaching a team.
  • Strong computer skills and able to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • If needed, may be asked to travel to other branch locations.
