McLaughlin Research Institute (MRI) is a center for research in biomedical science, with a current focus on age related diseases such as ALS, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. MRI is currently seeking a qualified and result driven research assistant. This position is responsible for supporting a lab at McLaughlin Research Institute through following research procedures, exercising analytical judgement, and performing technical laboratory duties. This position is responsible for handling laboratory chemicals and specimens, and hazardous materials; applicants must be physically and mentally capable of performing all essential tasks surrounding these duties. Medium lifting of equipment and supplies are required. Performing experiments using research best practices/scientific method is essential. Clear and orderly records of data and experiments performed, as well as communicating effectively in written and verbal form while organizing and managing time are required. MRI has federal and private foundation grants and is grateful for generous financial support from community members. This position will help support the goals, research projects, and integrity of the Institute, its grantors, and its benefactors.
Essential skills include any experience in the following areas: biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, cell biology, chemistry, biology, animal science, data science, clinical science, animal models, human biospecimens, or quantitative biology (such as computational biology, bioinformatics, mathematical modeling). Laboratory Responsibilities
Perform required experiments, operate laboratory equipment such as chromatography systems, microplate readers, centrifuges, pipets, biologic hoods, and other spectroscopic instrumentation. Perform biomolecule analysis, homogenize tissue, make solutions, perform gel electrophoresis, western blotting, and additional biochemical/biophysical experiments. Other duties as assigned.
Clerical Responsibilities
Keep clear and orderly records of data and experiments on various software platforms, such as Microsoft Excel, Office 365, Sigma Plot, and GraphPad Prism. Communicate clearly and accurately using English, both verbally and in writing. Perform mathematical and statistical calculations, inventory supplies and equipment and submit requests to the Purchasing Manager for new orders and restocks as necessary. Report to direct supervisor/PI of the lab. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields preferred
