About the Program
The 2025 Schwartz Community Based Internships, funded by the Schwartz Family Foundation, connects students to paid internship opportunities with non-profit organizations in the Rochester area. These internships help students access traditionally unpaid opportunities that highlight the value of the humanities in the workplace while building critical skills such as Adaptability & Resiliency, Career Design & Management, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, Intercultural & Global Fluency, Leadership, Oral & Written Communication, and Teamwork.

Program Eligibility & Benefits
Program Eligibility
First-year, sophomore and junior students in the School of Arts & Sciences and the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Rochester are eligible to apply, including international students. International Students must apply for CPT through the Greene Center.
Program Benefits
In addition to securing a full-time summer internship, accepted students join a community of current and past interns, develop a network with all participating organizations, and participate in educational and social programming supported by the Greene Center for Career Education and Connections. In addition, selected interns receive:
- A $5,000 stipend distributed across the course of the summer months
- Internship credit with transcript notation (CASC 394i)
- A dedicated career advisor
- Three summer excursions

Application Details
To apply, students must submit a resume (and cover letter if indicated) for each position on Handshake. To find all postings for the program, search for the University of Rochester Collection labeled “Schwartz Community-Based Internships: Summer 2025” in the Jobs section of Handshake.
Additional Details
- Students will be required to work a minimum of 270 hours over the course of the summer months from June-August. The times and dates of the internship will be determined between the organization and the student in order to provide flexibility.
- Please do not apply on the organization’s websites for this program. This will NOT count as a Schwartz Community Based Internship. All students must apply through Handshake.
- Students are able to apply for more than one internship site, and we encourage you to do this!

Interview Period: February 25 – March 29, 2025
Internship Period: Summer 2025 (will be determined by internship site)
Tentative Summer Excursion Dates:

– End-of-Summer Celebration: Thursday, August 7, 2025 -
