Project Management in Action: Solving Real-World Challenges

Discover how engineering problems are tackled in the real world through the lens of a project manager! Join this interactive workshop where you’ll learn how project management principles are applied in technical fields. You will also have the opportunity to acquire hands-on experience by creating a solution to an engineering problem. Through this activity, you will gain a glimpse into project-based work beyond the classroom. This session will feature:Interactive Alumni Connections: Hear from a project manager as they share experiences and insights into the project management process in an engineering context. Alumni and graduate students will also serve as mentors, providing feedback and guidance as you work on your solutions.Skill-Building Activities: Collaborate in teams to tackle a real-world engineering prompt. You’ll brainstorm, develop a solution, and create a concise 90-second pitch supported by a three-slide presentation. This activity will enhance your critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills.Hands-On Problem Solving: Work with peers from diverse disciplines to think creatively and develop innovative solutions. Alumni and graduate student “judge floaters” will provide reflective moments and feedback throughout the process.Presentation and Feedback: Present your team’s solution to a panel of judges, receive constructive feedback, and compete for prizes. This experience will help you build confidence in presenting your ideas and reasoning to an audience.Whether you’re looking to connect with alumni, develop essential skills, or gain confidence in problem-solving and presenting, this event offers a unique opportunity to prepare for the challenges of the professional world.
