Social Impact Workshop

Are you interested in using your skills to create real change in your community and beyond? Curious about what it takes to thrive in mission-driven roles and nonprofit careers? Whether you’re passionate about advocacy, fundraising, or community organizing, this Skills Lab is designed to help you turn your passion into impact. Join us for the Social Impact Skills Lab, a dynamic learning experience held during the Community Engaged Learning Fair. You’ll connect with University of Rochester alumni currently working in nonprofit and public service roles, and gain hands-on exposure to essential skills that fuel social change. This event will feature four rotating micro-sessions led by alumni experts: Fundraising: Learn how to engage supporters and raise vital resources. Grant Research & Writing: Discover how to identify funding opportunities and craft compelling proposals. Advocacy: Explore how to champion causes and influence policy change. Volunteer Management: Understand how to mobilize and lead volunteer teams effectively. Each session includes 30 minutes of skill-building followed by 15 minutes for Q&A and networking with alumni professionals. Whether you’re exploring a future in the nonprofit sector or looking to build skills that apply to any career, this is your chance to gain practical knowledge, connect with change-makers, and strengthen your impact. Light refreshments will be provided — come learn, engage, and grow! These programs are designed to be open to any and all University of Rochester students, faculty and staff regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex, and is consistent with all current governing federal and state nondiscrimination law. We recognize the intersectionality of individual identities and recommend that you join any programs that you identify with to explore your career interests, connect to networks, and discover helpful resources. If you need disability-related accommodations, please email Eugene Mont (emont@rochester.edu) at least 3–5 business days before the event.
