
Opportunities to Support Students
We’re seeking industry experts, insiders, and champions to talk with current students, support their career exploration, and help prepare them for work and life after Rochester. Every volunteer opportunity entails a different time commitment, level of training or preparation.

Alumni Office Hours
Meet individually with students during pre-scheduled sessions to provide students the opportunity to ask questions, hear different perspectives, and further connect with the alumni community for professional insights as they figure out what’s next on their internship, job, or graduate school journey. Meetings are held virtually in 30-minute timeslots.
Minimum 1-3 hours with possibility for greater hours if part of larger program.

1:1 Conversations
Meet with a student to answer their questions and share your experience regarding your profession, career path, and life after Rochester. These meetings can be held in-person, virtually, or by phone.
Minimum 1-2 hours with possibility for greater hours if part of larger program.

Practice Technical Interviews
Meet with one or more students for a 1:1 practice interview focused on your industry or specific technical skills. These meetings can be held in-person, virtually, or by phone.
Minimum 1-2 hours with possibility for greater hours if part of larger program.

Programs
Volunteer for collaborative programming with student organizations, industry panels and programs, or as part of a speaker series. These engagements are held on campus or virtually.
2-4 hours per program (30 to 60-minute intro/prep call, 1-2 hour program, and your personal travel and preparation time).

Course Panelist
Designing Your Life (CASC 104) and Business Careers (BUS 100): Alumni panelists from a variety of majors, experiences, and career fields talk about how their diverse experiences at the University of Rochester informed their career decision-making and journey from degree to initial career.
1-3 hour commitment.

Real Reader
Real Reader volunteers work directly with one or more undergraduate students in the Communicating Your Professional Identity (WRTG 27X) course and provide feedback focused on their assignments, professional development, and career preparedness. Learn more about the position here.
One year (two semester) commitment. Minimum five hours per student per semester with possibility for greater hours.

The Meliora Collective Mentorship Program
This University-wide program enables mentors to help alumni and student mentees with their professional development. Mentors provide real-world context, personal insights, and ongoing support to help achieve short and long-term goals over three months. Join The Meliora Collective to participate and connect with alumni, students, parents, faculty, and staff.
The program runs twice annually; Fall: October-December and Spring; February-April.
