Communicating Your Professional Identity (WRTG 27X) provides you with the tools to create professional materials like a resume, statement of purpose, and elevator pitch targeted to your audience and career goals.


A great way to explore your curiosities is to try it out and see if it’s a good fit for you. This could be an independent project, campus job, internship, research opportunity, class and/or volunteering. There are so many different ways you can build a unique experience simply by trying stuff out and exploring different ideas! 

Secure an internship, research position, or other experiential learning opportunity to test out your interests, gain skills, and work towards your career goals.
Handshake is a great resource for identifying internship opportunities.
The Office of Undergraduate Research can help you identify research opportunities during the school year and over breaks.

Expand participation in student organizations and professional conferences to build College Competencies.

Looking to expand your skill set or test out a current or new career interest? Participate in virtual employer projects to gain the skills employers are looking for.

One of the best ways to learn about possibilities and what inspires you is to talk to people: other students, alumni, faculty, staff, family, employers… and just listen, ask questions, and take it in. 

Actively network with alumni, peers, faculty, employers, and other professionals to build contacts within companies and industries who can support your learning and candidacy.
