As a world-class research institution, the University of Rochester attracts some of the most talented individuals from across the globe. The diversity of our enrollment creates a dynamic learning environment for all our students, and allows our students to consider alternative ways of approaching problem solving. We believe this commitment to academic diversity benefits employers and organizations as they navigate an ever-changing workplace.
International Services Office
The Greene Center partners with the professionals of the International Services Office (ISO) to address the unique needs of international students and scholars. Through this partnership, we guide students through the processes of US immigration and work authorization requirements. The International Services Office has a staff with more than 40 years of experience, and they work diligently to address student and employer questions.
Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
International students are eager to use their skills and talents within a US work experience. Through federal work rules, an international student may work for a US employer for a period of time. This type of employment is called Curricular Practical Training (CPT), and requires an offer letter from the employer to start the process for obtaining work documentation. ISO offers additional information to help you better understand the eligibility process.
Optional Practical Training (OPT)
The global workplace demands individuals who can work cross-culturally, speak different languages, and bring the intellectual heft from an academic research experience. Optional Practical Training allows you to hire a student after they have completed their degree program. ISO offers additional information to help you better understand the eligibility process.
