Ophthalmology Gap Year Internship | Rolling Applications

We are seeking motivated gap-year students for a one-year paid internship at our leading ophthalmology practice. Ideal for those preparing for medical or graduate school, this program provides a strong foundation for future training. Interns receive direct mentorship from experienced physicians while developing clinical and technical skills across multiple practice locations. In addition to hands-on patient care experience, interns gain valuable insight into medical practice operations and networking opportunities, all while contributing to the ongoing growth and improvement of the program for future participants.

Interns will begin with a three-month training period focusing on developing skills needed to become an ophthalmic technician. Following training, interns will rotate through subspecialties, including optometry, retina, oculoplastics, and general ophthalmology, amongst others. Each rotation offers hands-on experience in key areas such as shadowing physicians, observing surgeries in our OBS, assisting technicians, and observing and assisting in surgical scheduling and minor procedures.

URMC SURF Program: Summer Research | Applications Due by February 9

Our Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program is a transformative ten-week experience designed to empower college students for careers in medicine and biomedical sciences.
