Mentorship in Action- Alumni Conversation | Nov. 5th, Noon-1pm | Virtual

Join us for a special virtual event celebrating the power of mentorship within the University of Rochester community. The program begins with a conversation between Paul Gamble ’79 and Dominique Moody ’23, whose mentorship experience through The Meliora Collective inspired Dominique to return as a mentor.

Following their discussion, Paul will moderate a panel featuring Wuwei Chen ’11John Breedy ’04, and Edith Perez ’97S (MBA) — all alumni who’ve seen mentorship shape their careers and communities.

No matter what stage you are at or what career interests you have, CASC 104: Designing Your Life could be a great option for you. The course is specially designed for students who are looking for a little more structure and support in exploring their interests, to make sense of the resources and opportunities available at Rochester, and to begin crafting options that are unique to their interests, experiences, and goals. This is an 8-week course open to all class years.

This is the second of a three-part series specifically for students looking for employment in the United States.  Learn about how to network in the United States and why it is important for propelling you toward career success.  In this hour-long session you’ll learn:

  4. How to create networking notes to connect with employers and alumni.

The Robots are Coming: Will AI Take Your Job – Panel Discussion | Wednesday Nov. 5th, 7:30-9pm | Wegmans Hall 1400

Artificial intelligence is transforming the world of work, but what does that mean for students? Will AI create new opportunities? Will it disrupt the career paths higher education is built around? How will government policy shape the pace and direction of this change? And what skills will matter most in the years ahead?

If you’ve been wondering how AI will affect your job prospects, join Professor David Primo for “The Robots Are Coming: Will AI Take Your Job?” This panel discussion will take place on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 7:30–9:00 PM in Wegmans Hall 1400. No registration is required.

The panel will feature experts with diverse perspectives on technology and the economy. Molly Kinder of the Brookings Institution studies how automation affects workers and inequality. Will Rinehart of the American Enterprise Institute focuses on how innovations like AI shape job creation. Moshe Vardi, a computer science professor at Rice University, has warned that AI will be a net job destroyer. They’re coming to Rochester to discuss how AI is changing the future of work—and what that means for you. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions during the panel.

Case Competition: ROC the Project 2025 | Now- November 21st

ROC the Project is an experiential case competition where students develop project management and leadership skills by planning a real project using the Project Management Institute-based methodology. This hands-on opportunity connects students with a local non-profit, allowing them to analyze challenges, propose solutions, and gain real-world experience under the guidance of certified project managers.

This is delivered entirely online and designed with flexibility in mind. Students will engage in short, interactive micro-learning lessons that fit easily into busy schedules. Virtual training sessions are held in the evenings via Zoom, with recordings available for on-demand viewing. Finalized dates and times for live sessions will be announced soon.

Make It Happen Prize 2025–26 | Deadline November 1st at 11:59pm

The Barbara J. Burger iZone Consulting Team are looking for applicants who demonstrate curiosity, creativity, and a commitment to completing the program as they further their projects. The prize offers up to $1,500 in funding for students, faculty, and staff who are University of Rochester students or alumni, or who are partnered with one. It supports startups, research projects, and other early stage ventures. Projects that make strong progress may receive up to an additional $1,500 in follow on funding. Participants also receive training in systems thinking, pitching, and other key skills to help them strengthen and grow their ideas.
