2025-2026 Health Committee Letter Process is Open! | Due March 7 at Noon
Are you planning to apply to medical, dental, or veterinary school in the 2025-2026 cycle (for fall 2026 matriculation)? The Greene Center offers the Health Committee Letter (HCL) process for students as a way to prepare you for this upcoming cycle! This will serve as a mock application and interview that is similar to those you will encounter in your application process. Check out the Health Committee Letter page for more information.
This year, the cycle opened on January 21, so be sure to fill out the Health Professions Questionnaire (HPQ) by March 7 at noon. You will then be given instructions on how to schedule an HPQ Interview with a healthcare community advisor at the Greene Center.
URSMD MAPS Visit Day | Friday, March 28 from 11am to 3:30pm – Register by March 14
Join the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry for MAPS Visit Day on March 28 to learn more about the medical school admissions process, summer research opportunities, have lunch with current students, view simulation demonstrations, and tour the medical center! Register here by March 14 at 12pm.
UR PreDoc Program | Applications Open March 15
The UR PreDoc program provides a 2-year longitudinal experiences with the goal of promoting exposure to, and interest in clinical medicine for undergraduate students in Rochester who identify from backgrounds that have been historically minoritized in medicine. In this program, you will receive mentorship from local senior physician leaders at URMC as well as local medical students, gain access to scholarly and career development opportunities, gain shadowing and research experiences, and learn more about the medical field in general! This is a great opportunity for mentorship and career development, so check out the application information before it opens!

Rochester Youth Year Fellowship | Rolling Applications, Final Deadline April 14 at 12am
Rochester Youth Year (RYY) is a yearlong AmeriCorps VISTA fellowship for recent college graduates. Fellows serve full-time with a community organization for a 365-day term, and they perform indirect, capacity-building service, working behind the scenes to support sustainable solutions to poverty. In addition to the hands-on experience they gain on the job, RYY members take advantage of monthly professional development opportunities to build their skills and learn about a wide range of community-oriented career paths. Fellows are eligible for AmeriCorps VISTA benefits including a living allowance stipend, a healthcare allowance, an end-of-service benefit, personal and sick leave, and more.
Applications from students who have graduated in the last five years are welcome. Accepted applicants will interview with all of host sites and will then be matched with the site that best fits their interests and talents for their year of service. Check out the link for more information!
Gap Year Position: AmeriCorps VISTA Community Health Project Coordinator | Rolling Applications
As a Community Health Project Coordinator VISTA, you will collaborate with a diverse group of community partners and regional VISTAs to impact community while developing professional skills. Build upon the work of prior VISTAs and create projects of your very own. Previous VISTAs have developed and implemented programs that address the social determinants of health in creative and effective ways. VISTAs have designed and launched a texting platform serving more than 500 folks in recovery, led public health awareness campaigns, started entrepreneurial hubs, launched youth empowerment programs, supervised undergraduate interns interested in health equity, painted murals, delivered 50,000 period products, and much more. Let your interests and passions drive projects for maximum impact on the community.
This position is located in Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Individuals are given a modest living stipend ($25K for this position), a $7,400 educational stipend or a $1,800 cash award upon completion of their service year, and modest rent support in addition to 1 meal per day in the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center cafeteria. We have Dr. Henry S. Friedman, a top neurosurgeon in the US and U of R alumni, presenting a Medallion workshop on March 3rd from 7-8pm! Dr. Friedman is an internationally renowned adult and pediatric neuro-oncologist who helps to lead The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University, and will be talking about his career path and leadership experiences while answering questions from student attendees. Navigating Your Future Career with a Disability | Tuesday, March 4, 6-7:30pm in Feldman Ballroom
The Greene Center’s Students with Disabilities identity community is partnering with Active Minds and Eye to Eye to host an engaging panel and networking event focused on navigating the transition from college to your first job and strategies for professional success while living with a disability (both visible and invisible, including mental and physical health). Our panelists—Rebecca Block, Nicole Cavallaro, and Lena Wiedemann—will share their personal experiences of managing disabilities in the workplace and provide valuable insights, guidance, and advice. The discussion will cover a wide range of topics, including mental health, depression, addiction, student well-being, physical disability, neurodivergence, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
