Hailey Baker ’22, Chemical Engineering
Hailey is currently working at Javlyn Process Systems as a Process Engineer. She is interested in fluid dynamics and transport phenomena, and conducted research on transition flow mixing and fluid flow in porous enzyme immobilizing scaffolds using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Her passion for engineering and fluid dynamics stems from experiences working with her dad while growing up.
Aakanksha Dutta ’26, Business and Data Science
Aakanksha is interested in data and AI/ML. She served as an intern at BlueCross BlueShield, where she developed an AI-assisted authorization solution, streamlining access to care. In addition, Aakanksha is the Event Chair for Women and Minorities in Computing, Vice President of the Undergraduate Data Science Council, and a member of Rewriting the Code and AnitaB.org. She is an incoming summer intern at Goldman Sachs.
Hesham Elshafey ’25, Electrical and Computer Engineering
Hesham is interested in robotics, hardware design, and software-hardware integration to automate tasks and solve problems. He is an incoming summer intern at NVIDIA, and had previous internship and research experiences at Xallent, Digital Control Incorporated, and the University of Rochester’s Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
Nicholas Kochan ‘17 (BS), ’19 (MS), ’22 (PhD)
Nicholas received a BS in Optics in 2017, a MS in Technical Entrepreneurship and Management in 2019, and a PhD in Optics in 2022. He is currently a Principal Scientist at Physical Sciences, specializing in the design and metrology of optical systems and imaging, with expertise in developing metasurfaces, diffractive optics, and gradient index lenses. His work spans conventional and aspheric optical system integration, and he is also an open-source code developer. Nicholas actively contributed to the optics community as a member of Optica and SPIE.

Past to Present: Alumni Roadmap to Networking | Tuesday, February 25th 2025 at 5:30pm to 7:00pm in the Feldman Ballroom – Frederick Douglas
Join us for an evening of connecting with alumni, with a focus on historically marginalized communities, to hear their experiences navigating the workplace and building social capital within various fields and career paths. There will be a 20-minute panel followed by small-group discussions. A dinner buffet will be provided!

Mechanical Engineering Intern at Corning Inc. (Summer 2025) | Expires February 28, 2025 | Location: Fairport, NY
This is a dynamic position for an individual to work as part of Corning Advanced Optics’ mechanical design team. Focus will be to work on new designs for precision optical assemblies, optimizing fabrication and metrology methods in optical, mechanical, and assembly departments. Responsibilities include mechanical design/engineering, new product introduction, process development / process control, design of experiments, modeling / analysis support of opto-mechanical systems.

Summer engineering intern position to support the manufacturing and engineering of world-class, high-precision optical systems in Corning’s Advanced Optics division. The summer intern will work with Corning Fairport’s optical design team to model, tolerance and analyze complex optical systems from concept to completion.
Software Engineering Intern – Summer 2025 at Corning Inc. | Expires April 30, 2025 | Location: Fairport, NY
This summer intern position is designed to support the manufacturing and engineering of world-class, high-precision optical systems in Corning’s Advanced Optics division. In this role you will develop a C# application to be used in quality control for aspects of our optical components. The application will acquire data on the components by interacting with measurement hardware APIs and then will analyze the data and flag any detected manufacturing defects.

2025 Fall Engineering CO-OP Trainee (Full time co-op for 4 – 6 months in the Fall 2025)
