Social Impact: From College to Careers in Public Service

Join us for an inspiring evening featuring a panel of Rochester alumni working in public service and the nonprofit sector. They’ll share their career journeys, insights on meaningful work, and discuss why giving back to the community is so important.
After the panel, stick around for a networking reception where you can meet employers from the 2025 Schwartz Community-Based Internships program. This is your chance to learn about paid internship opportunities with nonprofit organizations in the Rochester region.

Summer 2025 Internships for UR Students
The Greene Center is excited to invite you to apply for two prestigious internship programs for Summer 2025: Schwartz Community-Based Internships and Bond Family Scholars Internships. Both programs offer internship opportunities for UR undergraduate students in the Rochester, NY region.
Schwartz Community-Based Internships
This program connects students to internships with non-profit organizations such as the YMCA, Susan B. Anthony House, American Red Cross, United Way, The Strong National Museum of Play, and more working in diverse roles. What you get:
- $5,000 stipend
- Two summer excursions
- End-of-summer celebration with the Schwartz Family
- Internship credit (with transcript notation)
- A dedicated career advisor
Applications are now open through Handshake. The deadline to apply is February 23, 2025.
Bond Family Scholars Internships
This program connects students with diverse, paid internship experiences at for-profit organizations like Paychex, Avangrid, First American Equipment Finance (FAEF), CPL, Corning Incorporated, and more.
What you get:
- $3,000 stipend (in addition to a paid internship)
- Two summer excursions
- End-of-summer celebration with the Bond Family
- A dedicated career advisor

Dinner, stories, and new alumni connections! Join the Greene Center for a lively evening with Dr. Jonathan Shipley to learn more about developing your professional communication and networking skills. This program is an opportunity to talk with other students and local alumni who are joining us to share their stories from the workplace – successes, missteps, and how they responded to them.
City Year – Success Coach – Apply Here!
As a City Year AmeriCorps member, your service will focus on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle and/or high school students. You will help these students earn academic success, improve their attendance, learn social-emotional skills and develop positive behaviors at school. You will plan and monitor individual student progress and work with teachers on whole class instruction, breakout spaces and other in-class student assistance.
UR Libraries Summer Internship Program – Apply Here!
The UR Libraries Summer Internship Program is a continuing initiative aimed at preparing rising sophomore and junior students (preferred but not required) at the University of Rochester for future work opportunities in their field of study. The UR Libraries are unique in that many of their departments mirror the work that students might find in their aspirational fields – data, finance, HR, IT, facilities, communications, user experience, project management, qualitative/quantitative research methods, instructional design, and so much more.

Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan fact tank that informs the public about the issues, attitudes and trends shaping the world. We conduct public opinion polling, demographic research, content analysis and other data-driven social science research. We study a wide range of topics including politics and policy; news habits and media; the internet and technology; religion; race and ethnicity; international affairs; social, demographic and economic trends; science; research methodology and data science; and immigration and migration. We are nonprofit, nonpartisan and nonadvocacy. We value independence, objectivity, accuracy, rigor, humility, transparency and innovation.
University of Rochester – Department Coordinator – Apply Here!
The Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies major and History Department at the University of Rochester seeks an administrative coordinator to provide general assistance to faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The position will serve as a receptionist for the LACX major and will assist the major coordination with event planning, promotion, scheduling, and communication to affiliated faculty and students. The position will also support the History Department staff with scheduling, events, and promotion.

Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Provide research updates and solicit feedback at our Stimson-wide open houses once a quarter
- Have monthly mentorship and research check-ins with members of the Strategy Program team
- Attend the Strategy Program’s monthly open houses and private networking roundtables, which bring together foreign policy professionals to discuss a range of issues in international affairs
- Present on their research findings and collaborate on a joint publication near the conclusion of the program
