Welcome to the Greene Center Women’s Community! I’m Amber Graham, our director of data and operations, and your author for this month’s post. You can look forward to hearing from me and my colleague Cordelia Smith monthly, as we both work to support all women students. We are also excited to ensure that our coverage of women’s career issues is intersectional, and brings forward the lived experiences for women of color, women with disabilities, women in nontraditional career paths, and international women.
International Equal Pay Day – Did you know?
There are actually two different Women’s Equal Pay days each year, and the first one is this month on September 18th. While some progress has been made, the salary numbers (particularly for women of color, those with disabilities, and in male-dominated fields) are still showing a deep impact at both the entry-level and lifetime earnings space.
If you are interested in learning more, you can see https://www.un.org/en/observances/equal-pay-day for more information on the actual holiday. You can also take an online course in salary negotiation through AAUW’s WorkSmart StartSmart program.
Additionally, here are a couple of recent blog posts from the Muse to inspire and encourage you to negotiate and support equal pay for women!
